Song For E (Dangerland Demo - 2008)

about

We moved into Dangerland in the hills of studio city on the 15th of
August in 2007. I’d always dreamed of living in a big house with my band, equipped for rehearsing, recording and rock-n-roll mischief. The
house was perfect: 4000 square feet on one level, plenty of space for
everything we wanted to do. The dining room became the rehearsal
space, and Giulio set up his full studio in one of the huge living spaces.
Leading up to a show at the Mint on Sept. 15, Steve and Frogs joined the residents of the house: Brian, Giulio and myself, for rehearsals.

i taught them a tune i’d just written that day: open, free-flowing and
ready for their own unique input. in one rehearsal, “Song for E” was
ready. We debuted the song at that Mint show, and took it to Giulio’s
space in the Dangerland living room to record a demo in February of 2008.

Three elements set this recording apart from the eventual album version that appears on Anthems: the beautiful cello track by Matt Cooker (a sometime -member of the live band in early 2008) and Giulio’s excellent drumming & bass playing. Brian had left the band just a few weeks prior, and so Giulio’s drumming gave the song a whole new feel.
