Like “Oh Lily”, the original version of “The Rest of My Life” was rendered obsolete by the new and improved take from Sound of Music in October 2009. This earlier recording, done at Radar! in Los Angeles with the Dead Messengers, is the same song from a chords standpoint. It’s simply the interpretation and orchestration that sets it apart. Where the album version is spacey and dynamic, this treatment has the song rolling along at a steady level throughout. I do prefer the track that made its way onto Anthems, but I think there’s a tenderness & beauty to be found here. Giulio, Frogs, J and Steve all exercise restraint in their parts.
