A key to my development as a solo artist in my first few months was a monthly residency at the Mint in Los Angeles. As I recorded my debut album, I had the opportunity to periodically bring the new songs to a live audience with a constantly shifting cast of supporting musicians. This track, recorded at the show on November 16, 2006 is an early look at the origins of the Dead Messengers’ live show. Back then, it was a small lineup of myself, Frogs on bass, Brian on drums, & David Gielan on backing vocals & hand percussion. You can hear that I’m clearly still working out the nuances of certain aspects of the song, particularly the harmonica solos.
