Incurable Blues (Live at Bordello - 2007)

about

Many live recordings have been made of the Dead Messengers over the years, and as we tended to play our favorite rooms in Los Angeles over and over, nearly all come from the Mint, on Pico Boulevard and Crescent Heights, and Bordello, the dim, red, sexy speakeasy off the beaten path in a warehouse district of Downtown L.A.

I dipped into recordings twice from this one particular show, on August 23, 2007 for good reason. One, it was right in the heart of that period I discussed earlier, when I feel like the band had started to turn in some of our best performances for some of our biggest crowds. Another reason is that the show at Bordello on 8/23/07 was the last time Kelli took the stage as a member of the Dead Messengers.

“Incurable Blues” has always been one of my favorite songs, and one of my favorite to play live with the band. I’ve always felt that the song went from good to great once Kelli sung her signature background vocals during the outro. It is always a moment to look forward to when listening to the track. As this was the last time she sang it on stage with us, I feel it’s a very special recording.
