The success of the sessions at Sound of Music in 2009 created an issue I’d never encountered before: I now had two different recorded versions of one song, but only one of them could actually make it onto Anthems as an official album cut. I was in love with the way the guys in Richmond had brought “Oh Lily” to life, so the 2009 version won out. Nevertheless, I think this earlier, rough version of “Oh Lily” from the original Anthems sessions at Radar! in 2008 has its merits. The most dramatic difference between this and the album version is the bridge, where I love Giulio’s Wurlitzer track. Seen as a demo, this is an interesting listen.
